Sydney St Andrews Cathedral and Garrison Church, The Rocks
A memorial plaque is installed inside St Andrews Cathedral, George Street Sydney.
The plaque was unveiled by Major General Paul A. Cullen AC, CBE, DSO, ED, FCA and dedicated by the Very Reverend Boak Jobbins 23rd November 1997. Plaques commemorating the 6 Division and 2/1, 2/2, 2/3 and 2/4th Bns are also in the Garrison Church, The Rocks, Sydney.
Australian War Memorial, Canberra
The Memorial Building of the Australian War Memorial courtyard is lined by arched cloisters, with the Roll of Honour positioned behind them. The Roll of Honour panels along the walls list those men of 2/1 Infantry Bn who died in WW2 (East side, Panels 28-29). A memorial plaque to the Battalion is installed in the grounds to the west of the Australian War Memorial building, north of the Captain Reg Saunders Courtyard. It was dedicated on 12 March 2008.
Brisbane Anzac Square Memorial Galleries
A Plaque 'We Honour our Fallen' is located within the Memorial Galleries of Anzac Square, Ann Street, Brisbane. It is open for viewing Sunday to Friday. The 6th Division plaque is next to that of the 2/1st Battalion. There is also a plaque commemorating the 2/1st Battalion at the Chris Cunningham Park, Wharf St, Tweed Heads NSW.
Rocky Creek Memorial Park, North Qld.
The plaque commemorating the 2/1st Infantry Battalion that was based at Wondecla, Atherton District of North Queensland between 1943 and 1944 is found in the grounds of the park along with plaques of many battalions of the 6th and 7th Divisons that fought in Papua New Guinea from 1942 to 1945.
Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance
A plaque dedicated to the 2/1st Infantry Battalion is mounted on stone in the parkland surrounding the Shrine of Remembrance, St Kilda Road, Melbourne. It is close to the 'Cobbers' bronze sculpture. The plaque reads :
“In Memory of Members of the Association of 1st Infantry Battalions (Vict.) : 1st Infantry Battalion, 2/1st Infantry Battalion, 65th Infantry Battalion, 1st Infantry Battalion Royal Australian Regiment SUDAN to SOMALIA.”
Ballarat, Victoria : The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial
The names of over 500 men of the 2/1st Battalion are among the 36,000 names etched on the 130 metre long granite wall in the Ballarat Botanic Gardens. A plaque for the Battle of Crete is located at Suda Bay, Crete.
The Suda Bay War Cemetery and Memorial commemorates the men of the 2/1st Bn who died in Crete in 1941.
Athens, Greece
The Phaleron War Cemetery and the Athens Memorial commemorate the men of the 2/1st Bn who died in Greece and Crete in 1941.
Halfaya Sollum and Alamein Memorial, Egypt
The Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery and Alamein Memorial commemorate the men of the 2/1st Bn who died in the Middle East and North Africa during the Bardia and Tobruk battles in 1941.
Knightsbridge War Cemetery Acroma and Tobruk War Cemetery
Two war cemeteries in Libya, North Africa at Acroma and Tobruk commemorate the men of the 2/1st Bn who died in the Middle East and North Africa during the Bardia and Tobruk battles in 1941.
Bomana War Cemetery and Memorial
The Port Moresby Bomana Memorial and War Cemetery commemorate the 108 men of the 2/1st Bn who died in Papua from 1942 to 1943 during the Kokoda and Buna/Sanananda campaigns.
Lae War Cemetery
The Lae War Cemetery commemorates the 38 men of the 2/1st Bn who died in New Guinea in 1945 during the Aitape Wewak Campaign.
